It re-edges nicely at first, but magically transforms into a great sharpener as the diamond portion wears away (few months of medium usage).Still cannot get the edges quite as sharp as a ceramic sharpener, but it will certainly do for any kitchen knife you throw its way, unless your my friend who has to have the sharpest knifes known to man...then pass on this sharpener.
