If you're starting out, going off to college, equipping a cabin or an RV, looking for knives to use when tailgaiting or camping, etc., these are great. An added bonus is that you'll have the experience to help you decide which of the shapes best suits your preference.

While they aren't professional quality, they're good value for the money. They have a range of blade shapes, making them a versatile set. Their color coding can be useful, too.

WASH promptly after use in hot soap and water, rather than put them in the dishwasher. They'll last longer and stay sharp longer, too. (They'll also set you up with good habits for when you do get the full tang forged versions by Henkel.)

(More customer reviews)While visiting friends in KC, I happened to try their Henckels 4-star knives and was amazed at their sharpness, balance, and comfort.I immediately decided I NEEDED to get a set of these knives.
I quickly settled on the 4-star chef's and fillet knives, but tried paring knife after paring knife without finding one that really felt right.The 4-star handle is great on the big knives (where one grips the handle with the entire hand), but didn't feel right on the paring knife; it felt like my pinky was in limbo, not meant to be on the handle, but not meant to be off it, either.
Then I tried THIS knife.The Pro-S 3" paring knife just felt *right* - it fit perfectly, it had just the right heft, and it was far more agile than the longer 4" knives.I've had it for six months and it performs exactly as I expected it to; this knife is just a joy to use.
I love the thing, but you'll probably want to do exactly as I did, trying a number of high-quality knives to find the one that feels right to you.

(More customer reviews)We purchased a Henckels Four-Star set about ten (10) years ago and use it daily.Out of the set of six or seven knives, this utility knife is our most frequently used.It is extremely useful in food preparation, holds anedge longer than the other non-serrated knives, and isn't affected bydish-washer abuse.
This is a great product that will last you many years. One caveat:NEVER allow your MOTHER-IN-LAW to borrow it and use it as ascrewdriver.It will be ruined - hence my purchase of a second one ofthese knives.

(More customer reviews)At first I was turned off by the bright (gaudy) colors.However, I have learned to appreciate that these knives are color-coded! They stand out in the knife drawer, and you can always find the one you are looking for.Consequently, the right knife is used to get the job done.
The knives are indestructable and durable.We have owned ours 4-5 years and they show no unusual wear. Put them into the dishwasher!We don't do that with another knife (regretted it when we have), but these can take it. The knives are well-designed for function, comfortable to handle, strong, & sharp.
We love them and gave sets to our adult kids who always are commenting on how useful they are. Friends that visit and use ours comment favorably on them.
These aren't showy knives for formal dining nor will they impress anyone with your classy style.However, they do impress everyone who uses them.And, the price is nice.

Henckels Twin Four Star 3-Inch High Carbon Stainless Steel Paring Knife.This set is good quality.Stamped on the blades are the words "German Stainless Steel" and "Made in China".They have a good sharp edge and a textured, shaped plastic handle that provides a good grip. The package says that the knives are "stamped one-piece blade construction for strength and durability".It also says that the handles are "fully closed polypropylene", "breakproof, dishwasher safe, and hygienic." They are lightweight and have a nice finish on the blades.

(More customer reviews)Several years ago I bought the 4-pack set of these knives, manufactured by Zwilling-Henckels.I was so happy with them I bought some for others in my family.We use them almost daily, so I wanted to get another set.While looking around on the site, I noticed this 3-piece set which cost 1/2 as much as the 4-piece!What a deal I thought!The only knife missing was the red-handled one, which I use the least anyway.Unfortunately, I forgot to do my homework.Yes, these ARE Henckels knives but NOT the same Henckels knives I have and love.Henckels has two lines, the "premium" brand and the "value for the money" brand.The first set of knives I bought was the "premium" brand and this set from Henckels, International, is the "value for the money" brand.These knives are very similar to the first set I bought but they are not the same.The handles are slightly different, the blades are different sizes, the knives aren't as sharp, and I have already noticed some small rust stains on the blades, though I was able to scrub them off.These knives are ok for the price, but they aren't as good as the set from Zwilling-Henckels, which I would have given 5 stars.

09/14/09Here it is, 5 years later, and I'm thinking of buying another set of Henckels paring knives. I will buy the Henckels Twingrip set of 4 rather than these, in spite of the higher price. (If you knew me, that fact would astound you!)If you are confused by the similar names for the two sets of knives, see if you can find a close-up picture.The better quality knives have two little 'men' on the blade, as opposed to one 'man' on the lower quality merchandise.

If you are wondering why I would consider buying yet another set of paring knives, it is for this reason:I find myself washing the dirty, yellow H. Twingrip knife over and over rather than reaching for my clean, yellow H. International blade!
