(More customer reviews)I got these on a deal but decided to order the forged set (chikara) for myself. I gave them to a friend for Christmas. I used them over at his house and was seriously impressed. I cut myself because I underestimated their sharpness. They are crazy sharp. They are thin and the handles are hollow so they are lighter than most knives. They are stamped and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. As long as these are tempered right they should keep their edge longer than a forged set, they'll just be harder to sharpen. Wish I could remark on the longevity on these, but I'll have to modify this if I can later. I can say I was impressed enough to order a second set of these as a gift for my mother.

(More customer reviews)The Ginsu santoku knife arrived rather quickly.Both knives are very sharp and I have been using the santoku knife on a regular basis. The 7-inch santoku knife is very sharp as well.However, it is not a true santoku knife because the edge is curved like a regular chef's knife.

I particularly like the the less used items such as the cleaver are at the top of the block and therefore out of the way.

(More customer reviews)I came across these knives as I was hunting for another brand, so it was not like I was hunting for Ginsu on purpose.At first, I didn't even take it seriously.The memory of their silly infomercials has been burned in my brain for years, I considered this brand a cultural joke of sorts.After reading other reviews on this particular line, I actually started to really think about it.

Okay, what the heck, I picked this up on a warehouse deal.If it is really terrible, I can send it back.They just came in, and I cannot believe it.What really nice knives!!They have a pretty decent heft to them, too.They weren't super-super sharp right out of the box, but one of them was---OUCH!Shoulda been more careful. But they were sharp enough.
The set consists of a 3.5-inch paring knife, a 5-inch utility knife, a 5-inch Santoku, and a 6-inch chef's knife.Nothing is serrated.

The knife block is solid and sturdy.It has the Ginsu name printed on one side only, so you can turn it to the wall if you don't want no one to see that.

I still ordered the Global that I was after originally, but these will make a very useful addition.I almost didn't buy them 'cause I couldn't get past the Ginsu thing.Now, however, I think I'm going back for a set of steak knives. Truly, these are not cheesy knives.

So, if these things do not hold up, I will be back to revise this.Right now, I'm at the "very impressed" stage and I feel optimistic.
I wonder if these things actually will cut through a soda can?Not that I'm going to try it, just wondering . . .

Excellent knives for $119. Good weight and balance of handle and blade. It feels great in your hand. Razor sharp but sharpening is a must before each use (or at least every other use). It may not have the prestige presence of a Wusthof or Henckels set on the kitchen counter, but it DOES NOT look cheap. Its Japanese design and bamboo block make it more of a resemblance of a Shun knives set. And Shun is actually more expensive than the two more popular brands.

The Bad:
Handle's finish becomes very flat and dull after wash. Dab a little oil on a paper towel and rub it on the handle and it will look fantastic without being slippery.

The Ugly:
The Ginsu name seems to make it sounds like a cheap TV offer knives set. But believe me it looks and performs like a $500 set.

***Best knives set for your money. You will not find a better knives set for $120 unless you find a set of high end Shun, Wusthof or Henckels for 85% off at a closeout sale somewhere.
