Once in place it functions well and is very useful for organizing.

Designed to protect and organize the kitchen cutlery, this knife organizer from Lipper International is smart and adjustable with ample room for knives and more. Crafted from ecologically responsible bamboo, it is also harder than maple and natural in its look and feel for harmonious blending in the kitchen. Three spaces in all, the organizer features a fixed center with 12 slots for six large knives and six steak knives, as well as a space for a sharpening steel. The side compartments slide in and out to accommodate a changing array of gadgets from corn picks to corkscrews. Shallow enough for most kitchen drawers, the organizer is 12-3/4 by 18 by 2-5/8 inches with a width of 22-3/4 inches at full expansion. For clean up, it washes easily with mild soap and water. Lipper recommends occasional application of mineral oil for best care.
