It's about a 8 on a 0-10 sharpness scale. you cant sharpen this at home as far as i know, perhaps my diamond hone would be OK, I'm leaving it as is for now. Works great with lettuce (what i bought it for) the cut ends do not brown or degrade after days in the fridge after cutting.
I loved the link on the sales page to the video of the factory in Japan, kinda weird, kinda cool, just like the knife. Be careful they do break and don't be dumb and try to take it through a metal detector, they put metal in the ceramic knives they sell to the public, just enough to set off a detector. Play safe and keep it at home where it belongs. These knives don't travel well, they are brittle and will break if you pry or even drop something on them. Still a great specialty knife that fits in any kitchen.
