(More customer reviews)I curse this every time I try to use it.It's true that it takes several attempts to get the can lined up properly so it will work.It is much faster to use a hand-held opener.

Once the can is lined up and it is working, it not only opens the can, but it always takes a thin layer of paper off the can.When I take my can off the opener, I always have to pick little shreds of paper out of the product.

(More customer reviews)The earlier reviews are right on target about the solid construction and good looks of the CO100.The reason for the 3-star review:try cleaning it.You need to remove the piercing lever to really get it clean, and to remove the lever you rotate it counter-clockwise from horizontal to full vertical, then pull it out.But the lever is long enough that it sticks up more than an inch above the top of the opener when it's vertical--in other words, you can't remove the lever for cleaning if the opener is mounted flush against the bottom of a cabinet.In fact, after using the longest mounting screws and all of the spacers that came in the box, I still couldn't rotate the lever far enough to remove it.I'm retired and had the time to dismantle the piercing lever and modify the nylon key-mount so that a 45-degree rotation (instead of 90 degrees) will let me remove the lever.But if you don't have that kind of puttering time and patience, you may want to wait until B&D corrects this design glitch.Then it will rate 5 stars.

Cuisinart Electric Knife With 2 Blades CEK-40C Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this knife to cut homemade bread. I needed an electric knife with blades long enough to reach across the entire loaf. Believe it or not, many knives I looked at had blades just a little too short. For those who need to know, the bread cutting blades for this model are 7.5" long. I measured just the useable cutting part of the blade. The overall blade is longer after the cutting guard so it can be mounted on the handle. Unfortunately, I do not have the meat blades, so cannot tell you the length of those.

I've had this knife about 1.5 years and use it once a week to slice up a loaf of homemade bread. Cutting-wise, it works fine. Not that it's too difficult to slice bread! :) The loaves I cut have a medium-hard crustiness and the knife is fine with that. The blades are still nice and sharp.

I have never used the meat blades, so cannot comment on those.

I don't want to store my electric knife on the counter, so the stand was not important to me. I tossed it. I store the blades with my other knives (in a knife block) and the handle in a kitchen drawer.

I've never owned an electric knife before this one, so I don't know how noisy they typically are. This model, however, is very noisy. You are not going to have a conversation with someone while cutting with this knife!

So, why did I rate this knife so poorly?
The handle design is terrible. I have slightly larger than average hands for a woman, but it is really hard to get a good grip on this knife because of the large bulbous handle design. I end up holding the handle way up by the neck where it is narrower. By the time I'm finished cutting one loaf of bread, I have a hand cramp from holding the knife in such an awkward position. What were they thinking with this design?? If you are a woman with average (or small) hands I'd find this knife locally and try it out before buying.

(More customer reviews)Perhaps the first reviewer had a defective knife because I can only give this inexpensive little knife the very highest recommendation. Initially, I had purchased a very (in my opinion) expensive electric knife ($65) which lasted all of, what? Two months? Yup, two months. Since I couldn't really afford to drop that kind of cash so soon again on an electric knife I got the Black & Decker EK700, not expecting it to last for very long because on average I bake at least a dozen loaves of bread a week, half of which are heavy wheat or rye breads.

As of today, February 28, 2008, I'm editing this review to make this comment: I used this knife for about a year before I posted my original review and it is STILL WORKING! Honestly, how can you beat that? I am really amazed at how sturdy it is. With the use I put it through I would have expected it to last no more than six months. But after all this time, with steady, hard use, it's running almost as well as the day I bought it. Great knife, unbelievably sturdy, easy to clean -- frankly, I can't think of anything bad to say about it. Highly recommended.
