(More customer reviews)I only sharpen my knives about once or twice a year. This let's me have my blade for many years before they need any professional work done. Why/how? Simple: i use this tool.

Anytime i am about to use my knive, i take this took out and simple put it on the table vertically and slide my blade on the proper angle 3 times per side. Done, wipe both clean and put the tool away.

2 minute prepping of my knife does the following:

a) straighten the edge
b) remove tiny (microscopic) part of steel, thus micro sharpening

this could be done after everytime you use it or prior to using it and will trully help you make your knives long-lasting

(More customer reviews)I went out on a limb and purchased this whetstone (along with the DMT Fine Grit Whetstone) based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews I read on Amazon. I was skeptical at first based on price as it's not the cheapest stone on the market. However, my doubts were quickly put to rest when I received it.

I tore open the package like a kid opening a gift on Christmas and immediately went to work on my mom's dull kitchen knives. After a few passes with the fine grit, I used this stone for a finishing edge. WOW! By following the simple directions, I resharpened every knife in my mom's knife block (9 knives of assorted sizes) in less than 20 minutes with a razor-sharp edge. And, I mean razor-sharp. In fact, I put such a sharp edge on these previously worthless knives that I inadvertently shredded a dish-scrubber-thingy while washing one of them without even noticing.

This product definitely works as advertised. This stone is easy to use, stable and compact. Plus, it doesn't wear out after 20 passes like some other diamond carbide sharpeners. It's money well spent.

If you were on the fence about getting this stone, don't hesitate - just get it. I'd even recommend getting this stone along with the fine grit (at a minimum). You won't be sorry.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this DMT item due to my satisfaction with previously purchased DMT diamond sharpening stones. Initially I tested this steel on a fairly dull knife and was surprised to see that the DMT steel had achieved very little after six passes on each side. I checked the surface of the DMT steel with a white kleenex and found very little metal removal. I then tried twelve passes on the same knife and the edge was now mostly restored. After playing around with several knives I discovered that this DMT steel removes very little metal with each pass and is excellent at restoring an acute edge to well maintained sharp knives. For dull blades or for knives in need of initial sharpening, this DMT steel is too slow and probably an inefficient tool for the job.
