Short of sounding like a couple of lushes, to say my wife and I enjoy wine is a bit of an understatement. We have a speed wine opener, but have torn through several cheap plastic foil cutters. We finally decided it was time to get a quality one.

After reading Amazon reviews, we ended up with BonJour World's Best Foil Cutter. I was a bit surprised to see it was all plastic except for the blades, and my wife *hated* the amount of downward pressure required to use it (pushing down engages the blades). However, I was extremely surprised to have it break after 4 months. As a result, to vent my frustration I wrote up a one star review of that product.

Now back to the search and I saw this stainless steel cutter. I'm not sure if I missed it during the first search, or just ignored it because there were no reviews of it yet. However, this cutter is, in a word, awesome!

It's all metal so it has a good, solid feel when holding it. The jaws are spring loaded and stop slightly wider than a bottle opening. Squeeze, a quick twist left and right, and you have a perfect cut.

I'll admit, I didn't expect this kind of construction for what I consider an extremely low price, but wow! This is probably the best "value per dollar" purchase I've *ever* made!

On one of the cheapie plastic ones we previously owned, it had a magnet on the frame, which made it handy to store. The Dalla Piazza does not have a magnet, which would be the only improvement I'd want (and then there's probably an equal number of people who wouldn't want the magnet). However, that was an easy fix with a little epoxy. Now it truly is perfect. I love it, my wife loves it - Look no further, this is the cutter you want.

(More customer reviews)Have had this for a few years and it's held up beautifully.I think it's a very sharp looking tool and appreciate the bottle opener on the end for convenience (even though it's not strictly necessary, since you can use the cork lever to open a bottle).Knife is sharp and cuts foil crisply.Recommended.

WMF Clever and More Waiters Knife Review

(More customer reviews)I was actually searching for garlic press and somehow ran into this tool by WMF. Very impressed by their other stuff from Google search so I ordered one to start my WMF collection. After receiving it, I put it in dishwasher to see if it will rust as I have found out that some less stainless steel ware can get rusted due to low quality SS used or the regular steel residual from the manufacture process. It stays stainless, works well, and feels heavy and sturdy. Excellent tool at such inexpensive price -made possible by the "Made in China" sticker. If they can revise the foil cutter of this tool into a can opener, even a so-so one, that will make this knife perfect. It is great for what it is now so I give it 5 stars.

For those who care, Silit subsidiary of WMF makes most elegant yet simple and sturdy garlic press and wine bottle opener, too bad Amazon doesn't carry them yet, only their cookware including Wok which I also have high regard.

(More customer reviews)I've opened a dozen or so bottles with my opener and haven't had any problems.The foil knife is a bit tricky to use, but functional.I usually prefer the use of a cheap paring knife for foil removal (unless I'm trying to show off).Love the styling of the Henckel's knife - enough that I gave away my previous waiter's knife (a plain, but perfectly functional hotel knife given to me many years ago by an employee of the Mayflower Hotel).The knife feels sturdy - if I'm wrong and it breaks, I'll update this review.
